"NOTES."
The "Exiles" can boast the best record of all the London first class club sides this season. They have achieved some notable victories and they can be expected to fully extend their three Easter opponents, they played Aberavon on Saturday and will meet Pontypool tomorrow. They can muster a very strong party. Last year John Anderson was on this tour with them. Their international prop forward D. R. Main cannot play because of the game in Paris next Saturday. John Leleu who has already played for Wales this season is a devastating wing forward and he can be depended upon to make his presence felt. On November 22nd we won in London by 6 pts. to 3 pts. and the Easter Monday game last year we won 8 pts. to nil."
"We can field a very workmanlike side to-day although deprived of the services of Malcolm Thomas, Bill Watkins, Bryn Meredith, Jack Hurrell, Glyn Davidge and Norman Morgan. The first four are selected for Wales versus France next Saturday, and the last pair are reserves."
"Assuming that Roy Burnett played last Saturday and turns out to-day, he can make history tomorrow by sharing the appearances record held by the late George Boots. Since 1947 Roy has been out there giving all he as got, and he has truly added lustre to the formidable record of this proud club."
"The Welsh Secondary Schools XV will be playing England on April 4th at Cardiff. The excellent rugby played by these boys is worthy of more support."
"Tomorrow kick-off 2.15 p.m. as a curtain raiser to the Barbarians game, Newport Schoolboys will play Rhymney Valley Schoolboys. The local boys were beaten by Mountain Ash in the semi-final of the Dewar Shield."
"Members are reminded that they can take up their reserved seats at the Club Office up to and including 8th April for the Welsh Seven-a-Side Tournament to be played here on April 25th. An excellent afternoon and evenings sport can be promised at this festival of rugby. Sixteen teams will again complete for the Snelling Trophy. Admission prices are Stand 5/-; Inside Ropes 4/-; Enclosure 3/- and Field 2/-. Buffet and Bars on the ground."
"Tomorrow kick-off at 3.30 we meet the Barbarians. This party is again bristling with prominent personalities."
"NEWPORT RUGBY SUPPORTERS' NOTES."
"After several away games, Newport will be home for the Easter matches, and we shall be pleased if they return to winning form, for although playing well, they could only draw with Cardiff, Wasps and Llanelly. With today's game against London Welsh and Tuesday's with the famous Barbarians, we should have a fine finish to the home programme, for open and fast play can be expected in each of these games."
"Our congratulations to Malcolm Thomas and Bryn Meredith on retaining their places in the Welsh Team for the Paris game, and more particularly on being chosen for the British Lions tour of New Zealand and Australia, may they do well, both in the International and on the Tour. The best of luck, too, to New Caps Jack Hurrell and Billy Watkins."
"We shall be pleased to take bookings for the coach trip to Gloucester on Saturday, April 18th. Leave N.A.C. 1.30 p.m. Fare 9/-, After the game it is proposed to stop for tea at the Swan Hotel, Alveston, where a social evening is being arranged. Names can be given to any of the Committee or to the Canteen Staff on the Grounds."
