"NOTES."
"The game tonight was scheduled for last Saturday and arrangements were made, with the full co-operation of the Ebbw Vale Committee, to play under lights in the evening, following the Wales v. Scotland game. It was later apparent that a keenly awaited game such as this would not be a true reflection of the respective strengths of both sides, again our visitors readily agreed to cancel the original plan, so tonight it is most certain that you, the customers, will get better value for your money by this wise re-arrangement."
"Ebbw Vale by their sterling play have fought their way to the head of the Welsh Championship Table, and can look back with pride on their achievements this season. Arthur Smith who Captained Scotland last Saturday is a household name in rugby football and is a wing without peer. Martin Preece the Welsh reserve hooker has a bright future and the remainder of the pack, although lacking the presence of Ron Morgan, is truly formidable. Skipper Ron Evans has an immaculate understanding with the wily Wilf Hunt and this pair could swing the fortunes of tonight's game. Tom Carpenter their last line of defence has been considered unlucky not to have caught the eye of the Welsh selectors."
"Our five representatives of last Saturday's International return to the side, plus Brian Jones who was standing by. It is unfortunate that Clive Lewis and Ritchie Wills are on the injured list but Gordon Britton, who will be on one flank, has had plenty of senior team experience and W. Hazell who had his 1st XV baptism last Thursday at Oxford, will be on the other. Roy Webb partners Ian Ford in the second row."
"Next Saturday, kick-off 6 p.m. we are home to Leicester. This game again is to avoid the T.V. attraction of the England v. Ireland match. The early kick-off is to allow our visitors ample time to return to the Midlands."
"Two weeks tonight, Wednesday, February 24th, a game has been arranged with Bridgend on this ground under lights. Members and season ticket holders will have to pay for admission because the proceeds are earmarked for the Appeal Fund."
"SUPPORTERS NOTES"
"With so many of our players chosen, or having to stand by as reserves, for the Wales v. Scotland game, a very much weakened side had to travel to Oxford, with the result that we suffered ouf heaviest defeat for some years."
"We are pleased that Ebbw Vale, at present riding high, were kind enough to fall in with the suggestion to play this evening, instead of Saturday, for even at full strength we shall be hard put to, to hold them, but whoever wins, we expect a game worthy of two such good teams."
"It pleased us to see our representatives acquit themselves so well in the International, congratulations to Bryn Meredith, on the way he led his team, and to Norman Morgan, whose general play was quite good, and his goal-kicking, which added five points to Wales score, was first-class. The back-row trio were also in good form, and should retain their places for the Ireland game, for this it is only at centre three-quarter that a change is necessary."
"Please remember that March 12th is the date for the Coach-trip to the Wasps game, bookings should be made immediately, so that final arrangements can be completed. We leave N.A.C. at 7 a.m., lunch en route, stay overnight at the Royal Hotel, leave London after lunch on Sunday. Approximate cost £3/15/0."
