From the match programme:-

"NOTES"

"Today we extend a very warm welcome to the famous star-studded Newport Club although as a rule we have had to acknowledge defeat, we always enjoy their open type of rugger and hope they enjoy their stay in Devon."

"In season 1953/54 we defeated Newport at Beacon Park 6-0 and dare we hope for a repeat performance today - it will certainly need far more thought, guile and craft than we have shown in the last two matches;  but remembering Pontypool and Ebbw Vale games, let us have an all round effort this afternoon chaps."

"Bill Glastonbury leads our points scorers wim 113 pts., followed by Gerry Dyer with 51 pts., Ed. Southern wifh 37 and Eddie Hall with 36, Clive Cross is the only player who has played in all games this season."

"After the Newport match our United entertain St. Day and we extend to them also a warm welcome."

"Congratulations to the Juniors on winning  the Devon Colts Cup at Teignmouth. It is a pity that there is not more opportunity to see these boys in action at Beacon Park."
