From the match programme:-
"NOTES."
"We have two home games with Abertillery this season, today, and a Christmas Holiday fixture on December 27th."
"Last year and the year before we visited Abertillery Park and the result of each game was in the balance until the end. The one game ended in a draw 3pts. apiece and the other a narrow victory for us by 6pts. to 3pts. On their last visit to this ground, three years ago on November 9th, 1957, Abertillery were worthy winners by 6pts. to 3pts. That game will be remembered particularly for a fine performance at full-back by B. Lewis, now of Swansea, and the devastating form of their three back-row forwards Hadyn Morgan went on to represent Wales and the "Lions," whilst Alan Pask has been travelling reserve for Wales on many occasions. Hadyn Morgan is absent today due to Trial duties. He will have a capable deputy in Alan Pask's brother, so with Bill Mutton also in great form we shall have to contend with a lively back-row."
"We have Brian Jones, Bryn Meredith, Brian Price, Brian Cresswell and Glyn Davidge in the 1st Welsh Trial. Nevertheless we can field a very workmanlike side with Jack Hurrell taking over his old position at outside-half, Gordon Britton moving into the centre, Graham Bevan who always deputises so ably for Bryn Meredith, Roger Taylor dropping back into the second row, Roy Webb taking the blindside and John Ryan taking the open, so that Geoff Whitson can lock."
"Members who applied for and were successful in the ballot for a Stand Ticket, for the Wales v South Africa game, have been notified by post. Other members who applied on the prescribed form for an Enclosure or Field Ticket as an alternative and were unsuccessful in the ballot for Stand Tickets can purchase an Enclosure Ticket, price 5/-, or a Field Ticket, price 3/- on production of their membership card at the Club Office up to Wednesday, November 16th. Surplus tickets, if any, after this date will be available to other members and Season Ticket Holders."
"The Club does not receive an allocation of grand-stand tickets for the Murrayfield game on February 11th. This is not an all-ticket match for other parts of the ground, but for the convenience of parties in particular, the Scottish R.F.U. are printing field tickets, and for these, application can be made to the Club Office, along with remittance of 3/- each."
"We have had a chance to view the South Africans during the last week. First impressions are not always the best, but to state the obvious, it is going to take a real good side to wrest that Springbok head from them."
"SUPPORTERS' NOTES."
"Congratulations boys on your great display at Strady, when you took Llanelly's record 13-0, about your best performance this season, we think."
"Owing to trial duty several changes have had to be made today, and Abertillery are never an easy nut to crack, nevertheless, we expect the team to do well, with the newcomers taking their opportunity to shine."
"To all our representatives in the trial teams, the best of luck, and may they catch the selectors eyes, to obtain further honours."
"In conjunction with the Extras, we shall be running a Dance at the Majestic Ballroom, in December, please watch these notes for further information."
"Our next Committee meeting will be held at the N.A.C. on Monday, 14th November, at 7.30 p.m. and we should be pleased to welcome anyone interested enough to help us in our work on behalf of the Schoolboys' Rugby Union, etc."
