From the match programme:-
"NOTES."
"Duty having been done by remaining indoors yesterday, we now sally forth, still full of good cheer, ready to participate in good natured seasonal entertainment. Unless we have over-indulged at the festive board we can rest assured that our spirits will be further enlivened by the excellent company from North of the Border. Many fine games have been witnessed over the years, but for a real shock, we have only to go back to last year when the fiery Scots almost mesmerised us into defeat. We ultimately shared 32pts. They have a strenuous programme playing Swansea, Newport and Cardiff in the space of four days. They know that they are always welcome here and we wish them a happy tour."
"The Newport team, also committed to three games over the week-end will show a few positional changes. Bryn Meredith is not available so Graham Bevan will substitute. It is possible that experiments may be made at outside-half today and tomorrow. It is imperative that we decide as soon as possible the composition of the team to meet the Springboks in a few weeks time. We should have a pointer to our chances after meeting Ebbw Vale last Saturday and Abertillery tomorrow. A Combined XV from these two Western Valley sides put up a glorious performance against the South Africans."
"Further on Saturday next we journey to Aberavon who are currently leading the Unofficial Welsh Championship Table."
"Tickets for the Enclosure (3/6) and Field (2/6) are still on sale for our game with the South Africans on Wednesday, January 11th. They can be obtained at the Club Office, Social Centre and local Sports Shops."
"Mr. Jack Davis of the " South Wales Argus " has published a book (price 10/-) which gives the complete history of the Newport Rugby Football Club. We highly recommend this book and suggest that you get your copy right away. This is Mr. Jack Davis' contribution to the N.A.C. Rebuilding Fund."
"A Complimentary Dance in honour of the South African Rugby Team will be held at the British Railways Restaurant on Wednesday, January 11th. Dancing 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Spot Prizes and licensed bar. Admission by ticket only (price 7/6). These tickets will be on sale today and tomorrow at the Bowls Pavilion after the games."
"We mourn the death of Mr. Harry Uzzell a Vice-President of this Club. He captained Wales and Newport. He was also an exceptional athlete and gained fame on the running track. He was an able administrator and his judgment was held in high regard."
