"NOTES."
"The Royal Navy XV fixture is a comparative new-comer to our list. Although we have met only during the last three years, each game has provided thrills galore, with rugger served up in true "man-of-war" fashion. It is said that the result does not matter, but in these games the result is truly not known until no-side has been blown, because the margin between the sides is either very slender or terms are level. Last year we won by 9pts. to 8pts. and the previous year we shared 16pts. The first game in 1959 was not an official fixture."
"Last season our visitors won the Services Championship and so held the title for the first time since 1951. They defeated the R.A.F. by 9pts. to 3pts. and the Army by 6pts. to 3pts. To enable them to "mould a side worthy of retaining the Championship they have arranged a hard series of games beforehand. On Thursday, February 1st they play at Swansea and then have a tilt at the Army on February 17th at Twickenham. The Harlequins will be met a week later and their second obstacle on the way to the Championship, the R.A.F., will be played at Twickenham again, on March 3rd. To wind up their representative games they compete for places in the Combined Services XV due to play a French Armed Services XV on March 31st."
"When the Newport team takes the field tonight a familiar figure will be seen wearing the No, 1 jersey. Norman Morgan has fought his way back to fitness after a leg injury received on Boxing Day 1960, and we wish him a successful return to first class rugby."
"Bryn Meredith and Brian Price return to the pack after doing duty at Twickenham last Saturday and Glyn Davidge, after missing the Coventry game because of a rib injury resumes at No. 8. The Newport Rugby Club Old Players' Association will be holding their third re-union in the Club's new tea-room at 7pm. on February 2nd. Refreshments will be provided by the Ladies Committee. Old players are reminded that whatever the team or whatever the year they are very welcome. There is no need whatsoever that you must be a member of the Newport Athletic Club. The only passport needed is that you have played at least one game for any Newport team. R. T. "Nick" Carter is Hon. Secretary and his home address is 28 Firbank Crescent, Newport. Please make an effort to come along, meet old friends and replay some of the games again in the comfort of a lounge chair. The two previous re-unions have been jolly affairs, so do not miss this one."
