"NOTES."
"Services rugby under floodlights on this ground have so far resulted in first class entertainment, and tonight we face a new brand of the Services. The Royal Air Force are by no means strangers to Wales. They regularly meet some of the top clubs, but they break new ground tonight and we welcome them to Rodney Parade. They have selected a strong XV, bristling with names well known in rugby circles. Leighton H. Jenkins is the team captain and we have reason to be grateful to him for his past services to this club. He has three countrymen with him in the side, all from Cardiff, Cenydd Williams, R. Glastonbury and T. Thomas. Gloucester provide two players, M. Booth and K. Wilson. English trialist and Barbarian H. J. C. Brown of Blackheath is a powerful centre-threequarter and he is no stranger to Newport. Their outside-half is A. Murphy, a most accomplished rugby player. He played for them in the Triangular Tournament last season. His home club is St. Helens who are a power in Rugby League football, and next Saturday week he will be playing as an inside-half for Great Britain against France in the Rugby League International at Wigan."
"Our visitors are training hard and welcome the sternest opposition to prepare them for their encounters next month at Twickenham. On March 3rd they meet the Royal Navy and on the 24th the Army. Last year they lost to the Royal Navy, 9pts. to 3pts, but defeated the Army, 19pts. to llpts."
"The Newport team is practically at full strength with the return of the three forwards who were on duty at the Arms Park last Saturday. Vic Jacques comes in for Ian Ford who gashed his leg at Oxford and Terry Pope is preferred again at centre. Norman Morgan will be at full-back. His performance at Llanelly and Oxford University have proved that the famous left foot is still an asset to the side."
"Next Saturday evening we play Leicester under the floodlights - kick-off at 6.30 p.m., and on Monday we journey West to play the postponed game with Aberavon. The postponed home game with Ebbw Vale has been fixed for Wednesday, March 14th. It has not been possible yet to re-arrange the postponed away game with Crosskeys, but we will be playing them in a friendly a fortnight tonight when their new stand will be officially opened."
