From the match programme:-
"CARDIFF v. NEWPORT"
"Once again the battle is joined with our greatest rivals, for there is no denying the fact that both sides go on the field determined to demolish the opposition. An unusual situation has arisen in that both Cardiff and Newport have recently defeated Aberavon within four days of each, other, and both by ,the margin of penalty goals rather than tries. Thus one of the features of this game will be the comparative form of both the full-backs, Alan Priday and Norman Morgan; no doubt the Welsh selectors will view this duel with great interest. At half-back there will be a renewal of competition between the two young outside-halves Geoff Davies and David Watkins."
"Having defeated Aberavon 6 - 0 and thus completed a notable double, Cardiff will be confident of their chances against a side, which has won the last nine successive games. However, there is not much that can be added to the numerous comments which have been written and said about these encounters. On some occasions they have produced thrillers and on others a dour slogging forward battle. Suffice to say that both sides will be determined to win and may the side playing the better rugby do so!"
"From the casualty wards comes news that Cyril Davies has now declared himself fit and will be playing for the Athletic side today in London against Harlequins Wanderers. On the debit side, Tom McCarthy is still nursing a knee injury which he sustained against Swansea in December."
"Finally, we wish to advise you of an under 15 Schools' International match, which will take place at the Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday, March 3rd, kick-off 3.15 p. m. These games are renowned for the high standard of rugby they produce and inevitably they unearth a few seeds of senior internationals in the embryo stage. Of the current Welsh XV, Meirion Roberts, Alan Rees, Ken Jones and Kelvin Cosslett have all played for the Welsh boys in the past few years, as also have Cardiff players, Cyril Davies, Tom McCarthy and Dai Hayward. Two Cardiff boys, who have been selected this year are T. Stephenson of Lady Mary Secondary Modern and I. Myhre of Howardian Grammar School. We wish them both success! B.M."
