"NOTES."
"When Eastertide falls late in the year we can wind up our fixtures on a holiday note. The three games this weekend will ring down the curtain on yet another season. Bryn Meredith has lead the side in true buccaneering fashion. The overall results todate are a true reflection on the performances. We are challenging strongly for the leadership of the Unofficial Welsh Championship."
"Our visitors from Pandy Park are having a successful season. Their last appearance here was in January, 1961, when both sides failed to score. Unfortunately our away game with them in January this year had to be called off, due to weather conditions, although we did journey up the Western Valley to play them in a friendly on February 21st, when we shared six points. Crosskeys have been on a West Country tour this week. Their Club Captain is forward Peter Davies who has given years of yeoman service and it is rumoured that he is seriously thinking of throwing his boots into the River Ebbw at the close of the season. It is hoped that he will have a change of mind. Ian Bowen the inside-half is in the first flight of scrum workers, but he is also contemplating retiring from first class football. Garry Legge is still the complete footballer, being equally at home as a stand-off half, centre-threequarter or full-back. Three-quarter, Stuart Watkins made a strong challenge in the Welsh Trials and much more will be heard of this free scoring wing in the future. We hinted at two possible retirements but there is one taking the field today for the last time., and he is not of Crosskeys or Newport, but Cardiff! We refer to the popular referee Mr. A. D. Croster, who has so ably controlled many of our games. Referees are much maligned individuals but where would we be without them? Thank-you Mr. Croster, and we wish you a happy retirement from the whistle, although we know you will still be grafting as hard as ever administratively. You are now at liberty to sit in the stand and hurl friendly invective at the man in the middle."
"On Monday we meet London Welsh who are playing Aberavon today and next Tuesday meet Pontypool."
"On Tuesday next we play the Barbarians, who played Penarth yesterday, are at Cardiff today and then play Swansea on Monday. Before this game on Tuesday a curtain raiser will be played, when Newport Schoolboys will give us a taste of things to come. The kick-off will be at 2.15 p.m., and a collection will be made for the Schoolboys funds."
"Make a note of the game to be played here on Monday, 30th April. Newport will field an All-International XV to play a Bedwas team re-inforced with internationals. The proceeds will go to the restoration fund for St. James' Church, Rudry. The kick-off is 6.30 p.m."
"The Welsh Seven-a-Side Tournament will be held at Swansea on Saturday, April 28th. The Tournament will commence at 2 p.m. and the final played at 7.30 p.m. Stand tickets are still available at the Club Office. Price 5/- and 7/6d."
"The Newport sides for the three holiday games will give an opportunity to all first team players to have at least one game."
