"NOTES"
"When the Severn Bridge is completed our visitors from Bristol can be referred to as very near neighbours, and the match as a "local Derby." Although we have been linked by the Severn Tunnel for over half a century it is the modern motorways that will enable the peoples from either side of the Severn to drive to each others grounds. Last week-end Bristol journeyed to South Devon and participated in the Torquay Festival. On Saturday they played a Festival XV and won a good game by 13pts. to 8pts., and on Monday they played Roundhay another visiting side to the Festival. Rcundhay come from Leeds and included in their side was J. B. Butterfield a former England skipper and four other Yorkshire players. Bristol won by 22pts. to 3pts. D. J. Weeks had a hat-trick of tries and centres J. Radford and J. Glover, a former Oxford University skipper were in scintillating form. J. N. Blake was as adventurous as ever at outside-half. They face us today full of confidence. When last on this ground, on 2nd December, we won by 17pts. to 3pts., but twelve months ago when we went to the Memorial Ground, they beat us by llpts. to 6pts. which although only our third game of the season was also our first defeat."
"We have an extra game with Bristol this season, besides the return game at Bristol which is on December 1st, wa play them here again on Wednesday, 10th October under the floodlights."
"Our game against Penarth last Saturday yielded us 29pts. but we did not display the form shown at the end of last season until the second-half."
"Last Monday night at Crosskeys, in torrential rain, Brian Jones got the best out of his men and in a hard fast game which was a credit to both sides, we registered our second victory of the season. We field an unchanged side from last Monday, so John Uzzell will be making his first home appearance today."
"Glyn Davidge is receiving treatment for his back injury and although he is very optimistic it is too soon as yet to know exactly when he will be available."
"John Anderson has completed his holidays, and today plays for the United in Bristol. He will be playing at Np. 8. In their opening matches the United, Extras and Youth sides showed that there is plenty of talent ready to be moulded into useful teams."
"Season tickets will be on sale today at all entrances. Enclosure £1/15/0 (O.A.P. 17/6d.) and Field £1/5/0 (O.A.P. 10/-)."
"On another page of this programme details are given of the scheme that is in operation for raising money for the Building Fund. Enrol today as a member or better still become an agent so helping to reach the target in as short a trrne as possible. Members are reminded to return the forms that were sent to them through the post for International Ticket applications, as soon as possible. These forms can get lost at home, or just forgotten so to avoid disappointment fill them in before it is too late."
"Next Saturday we are away to Neath, and the United will be playing Talywain on this ground."
