From the match programme:-
"NOTES"
"Newport, unbeaten to date, play their third home game of the new season with very welcome visitors Swansea as their opponents at Rodney Parade this afternoon. Newport survived a gruelling match at Neath last Saturday while Swansea, after getting off to a bad start with a home defeat in their first game, have since got quickly into their stride with convincing victories over Ebbw Vale and Bristol. So a keen struggle can be anticipated this afternoon with the "All Whites" mindful of the "double" gained by Newport last season with victories of 13 points to 3 at Rodney Parade and a marginal 8 points to 6 at St. Helens."
"The selected Newport side today shows only one change from last Saturday with the return of John Uzzell at centre. This means that for their first five matches Newport will have had the rather remarkable fortune of having had to call on only sixteen players, which is in itself just tribute to the success and consistency of the side in their opening games of the 1962/63 season."
"It is planned to open the splendid new £40,000 Social Centre on the Athletic Grounds at mid-day on Saturday, October 20th, prior to the Gloucester game, and there is little doubt that Club Members will be both impressed and pleased with the facilities this section of the Club has to offer. It is further hoped to celebrate the occasion with a special floodlit match on the Monday evening with Newport playing against an International side selected by Bryn Meredith, which will be followed by a Dance for Club Members and their guests in the newly constructed Gymnasium. Further details of these events will be announced later."
"Wales are engaged in two extra International matches this season, and Club Members and Supporters may like details of Ticket arrangements for these games. For the Ireland v. Wales match in Dublin on November 7th, (the game postponed from the 1961/62 season) a limited number of Tickets are available at £1 for the covered Grandstand, 10/- for the uncovered Grandstand and 4/- for the Field. Application for these Tickets should be made direct to the Secretary of the Welsh Rugby Union, 28/31 St. Mary Street, Cardiff and not therefore, to the Newport Club. In regard to the Canada v. Wales (under 23) XV at Cardiff Arms Park December 1st, the Newport Club will be handling Stand Tickets at 15/- each for this match and early application is advised by anyone requiring Tickets to the Newport Club Office. Admission to other parts of the Ground on this occasion will be through the Turnstiles."
"Next Wednesday evening Newport play at Pontypool and follow with matches at Llanelly and Cardiff - a stiff series of away games at which all the local support will undoubtedly be welcome."
