"CARDIFF v. NEWPORT"
"We welcome our greatest rivals to the Arms Park, for whenever the two clubs meet nothing can be more certain than that the result will be difficult, to forecast. No matter what the recent form of either side has been, there is always the glorious uncertainty that one may never know what might happen when Greek meets Greek. Fortunately there has recently not been so much of a stalemate as in years gone by and the last game at Newport earlier this season was a delight for both players and spectators. Let us hope that today's game is every bit as exciting."
"Both teams show changes from recent games and Newport have dropped John Uzzell because of the fine form of Gordon Britton and Ivor Taylor. On the wings Stuart Watkins returns after injury and Dennis Perrott deputises for the injured Peter Rees."
"After the disappointing performance by the Cardiff side at Oxford last week the players will be anxious to give the home spectators a sample of what they are really capable of. The team will have a more settled look this week as it is reinforced by the return of the Welsh Rugby Union trialists. Brian Anthony comes in for his second game in the senior side and it will be interesting to compare the play of the two brothers opposing each other at full back. Ken Jones is fit again and resumes his partnership with Maurice Richards, whilst Robert Morgan, who is strongly tipped to regain his international position on present form, comes back on the wing. Bill Hullin returns at scrum-half as he was a reserve for the Trial last week and the pack is strengthened by the return of Howard Norris, Lynn Baxter and Tony Fender, Thus the stage is set for yet another intriguing match and let us hope that the weather is kind for what could be a thoroughly entertaining game."
