From the match programme:
"NOTES"
"We entertain the three Services sides this season, and tonight we play the Army, with the Royal Navy and R.A.F. to follow next month. The Triangular Services Tournament is already under way. Our visitors tonight met the R.A.F. last Saturday and shared 6 pts. The Royal Navy meet the R.A.F. next Saturday and on 23rd March the Army meet the Royal Navy. All these games are played at Twickenham. The cream of the Services are selected as a Combined Services XV and will play the French Armed Forces on 6th April. The Army were Services Champions last year by beating the R.N. 6 pts, to 3 pts. and the R.A.F. 17 pts. to 6 pts. The Army were champions for three consecutive seasons, 1963-4-5, before losing the title to the R.N. in 1966. Having regained the title last year they intend to keep this honour and tonight, with the majority of last seasons team they hope to have an intensive work-out against us."
"Scotlands skipper J. Pringle Fisher was due to lead the Army tonight but has withdrawn owing to injury. Veteran Scottish hooker N. S. Bruce is still a master of his craft and former England wing C. P. Simpson will be at full-back. Len Martin who assisted Newport against Abertillery and Watsonians in December will be in their second row and N. B. Thomas of the successful London Welsh XV has also withdrawn. Last season on this ground we won 29 pts. to 8 pts. We make four changes to the side that beat Blackheath last Saturday."
"We have arranged a game with Paris University, to be played on the evening before the Wales v. France game. Members who have drawn stand tickets for the Wales v. France game are requested to collect them as soon as possible. A limited number of enclosure and field tickets are available for members unsuccessful in the ballot. Tickets are now on sale for the Memorial Sevens Tournament to be held here on 1st April, enclosure 3/6, field 2/6."
"Next Saturday we make the short trip to Cardiff for our fourth game of the series. Martin Webber must be confident that we can achieve at the Arms Park what Llanelli did last Saturday. The Monmouthshire game against Glamorgan at Abertillery last Monday had to be called off due to the hard ground. This deprived certain players the last opportunity to thrust their claims before the Welsh selectors."
