From the match programme:-
NOTES
The "Exiles" always bring down a strong party for their Easter Tour of Wales. This season, which has been their best ever, will make them formidable opposition and undoubtedly they will not be prepared to have their fine record dented in their three match tour.
Their sparkling performances have been duly applauded by the Press and we are hoping this afternoon to see them at their best. As individuals they are match winners, but the secret of their success has been the expert leadership of S. J. Dawes, who has welded a combination of personalities into a fast moving machine that has overcome most opposition. The talent in the side has been recognised by the Welsh Selectors. S. J. Dawes with eight "caps" before being made captain for one game this season, W. Raybould has appeared at centre-threequarter and J. Taylor, A. Gray and I. Jones in the pack. R. C. B. Michaelson, a Cambridge Blue and ex-Aberavon, was capped as a back-row forward against England in 1963.
Monmouthshire players are well represented in their side and former Newport players appearing regularly are Andy Morgan, Andy Williams, Gareth James and Fred Williams,
Last season we lost in London 14 points to 3 points, but won the Easter Monday game on this ground 16 points to 6 points. At Old Deer Park on November 25th, we lost 17 points to 9 points, so we do not intend to yield the double. Gwilym Treharne was their regular inside-half last season until he got an appointment which enabled him to play for us.
In a sensational exhibition of rugby the week before last, the "Exiles" played a Presidents XV and the final score read London Welsh 49 points, Presidents' XV 30 points. Keith Jarrett had an excellent outing in this game and his performance clinched his selection for the 'Lions'.
Our visitors played their last home game on April 6th, when they accounted for Swansea. Last Saturday they played Aberavon and tomorrow meet Pontypool.
Tomorrow we complete our home programme against the Barbarians. Next Saturday we send a team to compete in the Hawick Sevens. The following Saturday we play in the Snelling Sevens at Cardiff and the next day take off for our French tour. Our three games in France will be against Paris University, Gueret and La Voulte.
