"Cardiff v Newport"
"It seems the fates have deserted the cause of Wales in recent weeks. First Wales lose to Scotland at Murrayfield on St. David's Day, and then Cardiff RFC representing the capital are soundly hammered by some upstart from an unpretentious little town in West Wales. So, licking our wounds and attempting to restore our shaken pride, it is nice to return to well-known and familiar things like a game against Newport at the Arms Park."
"According to my statistics, and I have no intention of entering any argument involving the absolutely bewildering mass of contradictory facts and figures concerning this series, we have played Newport 326 times since the series began in 1876-77. We have won 148 games, losing 120. This season we won at home 9 pts. - 3 pts. and lost away 0 pts. - 13 pts. Newport, who have been in the doldrums in recent years, have made a welcome return to form this season and are celebrating their centenary with a team that is more in keeping with their glorious heritage. I hope they will be able to say nice things about us in our Centenary season. Incidentally, if you think that these notes are even tattier than usual, you are right. The printers have not received my note through the post at the time of going to press, and these are a hastily gathered package of thoughts dictated over the telephone. It's a shame really, you should have read those notes."
