"CLUB NOTES"
"As the team now enter the final straight of this historic season players, officials and supporters turn their thoughts to two outstanding events still to come."
"Firstly, the presentation of awards to players, which will include the 'Arthur Boucher Memorial Cup' awarded to the most promising player in the Newport Club, and the 'Martin Webber Memorial Bowl' awarded to the Clubman of the Year. Speculation as to the recipients of these trophies always causes a great deal of excitement with many names being put forward as the eventual winners."
"Names that immediately spring to mind, remembering that the 'Boucher Trophy' has already been won by present first team youngsters Rhys Morgan and Clive Jenkins, are Ken Davies, Colin Smart, Tony Mogridge and Richard Taylor. While the 'Webber Trophy' which has been won by such Black and Amber stalwarts as Keith Poole, Del Haines, Geoff Evans and David Rogers, could well go to one of the following, John Jeffrey, Paul Watts, Alun Evans, Ian Barnard, Adrian Hearne, Keith Rowlands."
"Secondly, the players are already looking forward to visiting America, and as soon as final details are received regarding the tour, they will commence organising off the field activities in order that the team which is finally selected to make the tour will be as well equipped as the team who toured South Africa a few seasons ago. Everyone at Rodney Parade is well aware of the magnificient impression created in South Africa and are determined that the team who go to America will return with the same reputation for behaviour. It is also hoped that victories will be obtained on the field of play as the opposition should not be in the same class as that played in South Africa."
"Remember, the closing date for entries in the 'Best Post war Newport Team Competition' is Saturday, 5th April, 1975, get your entries in N O W !"
"WELCOME TO RODNEY PARADE"
"Formed in 1885, London Welsh have made a magnificent contribution to rugby football both on and off the field. Many outstanding players have worn the scarlet jersey with the crest of a red dragon on the left breast, although I am certain that rugby followers everywhere will remember those who played with such brilliance during the late sixties and early seventies as the greatest."
"During the last few seasons, games between our two clubs have been entertaining high scoring games, last season for example London Welsh were the victors at Old Deer Park by 42 pts. to 14 pts., while Newport delighted their supporters with a magnificent display last Easter Monday to win the return game by 48 pts. to 12 pts. Earlier this season Newport gained their first victory at Old Deer Park for many years when they won by 31 pts. to 20 pts. So this afternoon they have the opportunity of achieving a rare double in modern days over the 'Exiles'."
"In welcoming London Welsh, it gives the Rodney Parade supporters the opportunity of congratulating John Dawes on the outstanding success he has achieved in his first season as National Team Coach. The brilliance of the rugby and the ultimate victory over Ireland had the hallmark of John stamped upon it. John can be proud of his success and 'with a little bit of luck' could have carried off the 'Grand Slam'."
"Everyone in rugby was sorry to learn of the serious injury sustained by John Taylor earlier in the season while playing at Bath. His contribution to London Welsh rugby has been tremendous, while he has played with distinction for Wales and the British Lions. Everyone at Rodney Parade hopes that he will make a complete recovery to full health quickly."
"Welcome 'The Exiles' may to-days game be in keeping with those wit¬nessed during the last few years, and a credit to both teams."
