"CLUB NOTES"
"Victories over Pontypool and Bndgend have certainty made the team forget the disappointment they suffered by the defeat at Bath. The Championship and Merit Table are still within our grasp, and all Black and Amber supporters will be anxiously awaiting the result of the Pontypridd versus Bridgend game that takes place on Easter Monday."
"This holiday programme will test the stamina of all the players, but with such a galaxy of talent available for many positions, it is certain that the Selection Committee will ensure that no players are overplayed. It is hoped that the injury 'bug' will not strike during this vital period and upset all the best laid plans. David Rogers who has made an outstanding contribution since being drafted into the 1st team, was confident that he would be available for selection for the holiday games."
"Mr. R. T. Carter, Football Hon. Secretary, is once again running a '200 Club' and any member or supporter who wishes to take part, should contact him immediately. Members and supporters are also requested to note that a 'Special Race Nite' will be held in the Rodney Hall on Wednesday 21st April, 1976, with the First Race commencing at 8.30 p.m. Admission by Race Card, Priced 10p. Why not make a note in your diary and come along and enjoy all the thrills of horse racing on film. Who knows you may win a fortune on the tote!"
"Congratulations must be extended to John Doubleday on his selection for the England Under 23 side. He certainly looks to be well in the running for a full cap provided he maintains his present progress. Everyone at Rodney Parade will follow his future with great interest."
"Newport Sweat Shirts and Grand Slam ties have proved very popular with members and supporters, although Campbell Black still has some available. Don't be disappointed contact him NOW!!"
"WELCOME TO RODNEY PARADE"
2Earlier this season Newport were defeated at 'the Reddings' by 14 pts. to 6 pts., so this afternoon will be striving really hard for a victory that will give them their first ever double over the 'Black and Ambers'. But it is certain that they realise victories at Rodney Parade are very difficult to achieve. In actual fact the 'Red and Blacks' have only been successful here on two occasions 1889-90 and 1974/75."
"Fixtures between our two clubs commenced in 1888-89 with Newport winning at Rodney Parade by 1 goal, 1 try to Nil, but losing the return game by 2 goals to Nil. The following is a complete record of fixtures, including this seasons game at Moseley."
"Period up until the First World War -"
"Played 22, Newport 16, Moseley 3, Drawn 3."
"Period Between the Wars - Played 6, Newport 6."
"Fixtures were resumed after the 2nd World War in 1971-72. - Played 6, Newport 3, Moseley 3."
"Overall record Played - 34, Newport 25, Moseley 6, Drawn 3."
"The news of the impending retirement of their international scrum half Jan Webster, following the retirement earlier in the season of that prolific points scoring fult back Sam Doble, means that the 'Red and Blacks' are nearing the end of an era that saw them as one of the strongest clubs in English rugby. Both these players contributed a great deal to their club and country, we wish them well and say 'Thanks for the memories'."
"Moseley made a magnificent start to this season, being undefeated for a long period. Unfortunately, they were unable to maintain this record, and have become very inconsistent during recent months. They recently gained the services of England centre Barrie Corlass, who joined them from neighbours Coventry. He forms a formidable centre partnership with Welsh 'B' International Malcolm Swain. These two have English outside half Martin Cooper serving them, and Newport will do well to remember his display here last season. International lock Nigel Norton is still performing powerfully up front and providing the right kind of ball."
