"The visit of Newport to the Arms Park is always looked forward to by supporters, players and committees of both Clubs, not only for the match itself but for the opportunity of renewing old friendships and recalling memories of games and incidents long since passed."
"This particular fixture is being played tonight because the Welsh Rugby Union asked the Cardiff Club earlier in the year if we would like to play the Argentine tourists. Naturally, we jumped at the opportunity, particularly as it would add to our impressive fixture list in this, our Centenary Season. Unfortunately the date offered clashed with an already arranged fixture with Newport. We approached Newport and, like the great Club they are, they readily agreed to rearrange the fixture."
"I bring this to your notice as I think this symbolises the degree of harmony that exists between the two Clubs. A further illustration is that tonight's game is the first of only two games between the Clubs this season and this will be the pattern from now on, much to the delight of future Chairmen of both Clubs, as Chairmen always dreaded the thought that in their year of office their Club might lose to the 'Old Enemy' four times in the season. The decision to have only two fixtures per season in future was amicably arrived at by representatives from both Clubs at a series of meetings held in the best of spirit and friendship."
"The Black and Ambers are enjoying a very successful season and will be anxious to continue their winning run, whilst Gerald's team are very keen to reinstate themselves in the eyes of their home supporters after that defeat by the Red Devils from Llanelli. However the convincing win over Swansea at St. Helens last Saturday will have given the side the confidence needed to tackle the Unofficial Welsh Championship leaders, who were without a game last Saturday because of Bristol's involvement in the RFU Cup Competition. Let us all hope that tonight's game will live up to the reputation of both Clubs, as providers of all that is best in entertaining Rugby Football, and not disappoint as so many games have in the past."
"A positive resolve by both sides to go out and play attacking Rugby will not only provide entertainment for spectators but will make the game more enjoyable for the players and will provide us all, both players and spectators with the necessary thirst to join our friends in the Bar afterwards, when we can right the wrongs, curse Denis Healey and the IMF, celebrate the Centenary and, above all, drink a toast to the continuing good spirit that exists between our two great Clubs."
"WELCOME NEWPORT."
