From the match programme:-

"Welcome and congratulations to our old friends Newport, who, contrary to the views of certain journalists who should have known better, have responded to a sense of history by providing the opposition for centenarians, Cardiff, in this year's WR.U. Cup Final."

"The Penarth Club are today undertaking their third match in 5 days and having won two of them so far have reason to approach this match with some degree of confidence. The matches at Penarth in the last two seasons have been particularly close affairs, with Penarth unlucky two seasons ago when Newport snatched the honours late in the game. Last season was a particularly entertaining match with Penarth coming from behind very dramatically, but running out of time with the score at 31 pts. to 26 pts., 5 tries apiece and with the margin of victory resting in the right boot of local boy, Leighton Davies!"

"On Saturday, Maesteg will be the visitors, k.o. 3.00 p.m. Tomorrow night Penarth Athletic will meet St. Josephs in the quarter final of the Mallett Cup at Blackwier, Cardiff, k.o. 6.00 p.m."
