From the match programme:-

"Welcome to the 'Black and Ambers'!"

"Were a "Top of the Pops" parade staged among the most popular visitors to Kingsholm there is no doubt that vying for leading place would be our old and valued friends from over the border, Newport - the famous "Black and Ambers" - to whom we extend a very cordial welcome this afternoon."

"Strangely enough, through force of circumstances, mainly because of clubs met once a season on a home and away basis, and the clashing of televised representative game's this is Gloucester's first Saturday afternoon match at Kingsholm this season."

"What better, therefore, than to have Newport as our formidable opponents to mark the occasion! Moreover, they come here today with a friendly brand of vengeance uppermost in their minds, for last season Gloucester were the only English club to beat them in what was a magnificent record."

"But even that victory, sweet and satisfying though it undoubtedly was, came only after a tremendous struggle, Gloucester eventually holding out to win by 6 points to 3 on Wednesday evening, March 2, of this year. We look forward, then, to another exciting and entertaining game with our respected "foes" from Rodney Parade."
