"WELCOME TO THE PARADE"
"THE opening weeks of any rugby season at Newport would not seem right if our near neighbours from the other side of the Severn Bridge did not provide the opposition. In the past, many "critics" have gauged the potential of a successful season here at Rodney Parade on the outcome of the result of the Bristol game."
"Although recent seasons may not have been quite as successful as the dizzy heights achieved during the "Johny Blake Era", the Blue and Whites have still produced a fine attacking style of rugby, with movement of the ball at top speed being one of the main essentials of their pattern of play. Throughout their history, the Bristol Club have made great contributions, not only to West Country rugby but also to the International Scene."
"Last season Bristol achieved one of their "rare doubles" over the Black and Ambers, winning 20 pts to 3 pts at the Memorial Ground, and 33 pts to 3 pts here at Rodney Parade. This victory was the highest ever achieved on our ground by the Blue and Whites and it is certain that they will be looking for a repeat performance this afternoon, if only to give Tom Mahoney and Jim Bryant the excuse to take a little extra beverage!"
"Welcome, Bristol - we look forward to a game full of all the best aspects of rugby football and worthy of both our Clubs."
"CLUB NOTES"
"WE are confident that you will give generously this afternoon to the collection being made on behalf of "Channel 1" - the Royal Gwent Hospital Radio Fund. This "Channel" provides a first-class service to all patients who are unfortunate enough to be in the hospital and is run on a voluntary basis. It is hoped that communications will be such, in the very near future commentaries on all our home matches will be able to be made "live" from Rodney Parade. Receipts from today's collection will go towards helping for the cost of installation, so please give generously."
"With a great deal of research now taking place into the state of our game in Wales, it is hoped that the future of Newport R.F.C. is being taken care of by Youth Secretary Roy Cridland and newly appointed Youth Coach Iorrie Williams. Iorrie has a great deal of experience behind him, both as a player and as a coach, and it is hoped that he will be able to give our young Youth Team, under the captaincy of Gordon Watkins a brother of former full back or outside half Alan Watkins, the correct foundation in the basics of the game. Once he has got those right, he can then develop their game. Welcome, Iorrie - we wish you well."
"Congratulations must be extended to Alun Billinghurst and John Manders on their recent weddings. Everyone at the Club wishes them and their respective wives every success in the future and trusts that it will in no way interfere with their rugby as we need both players for the months ahead."
"Don't forget the Disco being organised by the players to take place in the Rodney Hall following our game versus the Barbarians on Tuesday, 28th September. It promises to be a great evening and we will obviously be hoping to celebrate a memorable victory. Put the date in your "Campbell Black Diary" now."
