From the match programme:-
"WELCOME TO THE PARADE"
"This evening we extend a very warm Rodney Parade welcome to our friends from the Western Valley of Gwent - Abertillery ? who must be in good spirits following their fine win in the Schweppes W.R.U. Challenge Cup round last Saturday at Blaenavon by 41pts to nil. Abertillery have not had an exciting start to the season for various reasons but it is certain that the challenge of the Black and Ambers will bring out the best in their players and they will be anxious to see that Newport don't chalk up a 'Western Valley Double', having won at the Welfare Ground Newbridge last Saturday. Welcome, Abertillery ? and we hope tonight's game will rekindle memories of those epic encounters between our two clubs, when the opposing back rows read as follows: Cresswell, Davidge, Whitson versus Lewis, Pask, Morgan. As Mary Hopkins would say: "Those were the days, my friend"."
"Members are reminded that car park stickers are now available from the Club Office and, to avoid any problems in future regarding car parking inside Rodney Parade on match days, only cars displaying a sticker will be allowed entry. To ensure Members have the opportunity of obtaining a sticker, if they haven't already got one, this Rule will be put into operation for all 1st XV matches after 30th October 1985. Members are also asked to note that the Graftan Road gates will be closed at 2.45 pm for Saturday matches and 6.45 pm for midweek matches, even if the car park is not full. Grand Stand tickets for the Newport v Fiji game are on sale to Members at the Club Office, price ?4.00, until 19th October - after this date they will be put on sale to the general public."
"Jim Blackborrow and his Committee are calling all old Newport Players (1st XV, United and Extras) to attend a Reunion in the Brecon Lounge on Tuesday evening, 29th October, at 7 pm., the eve of our game versus Fiji. If you know or meet any 'Old Player' make sure he knows the time and date for Jim is looking forward to as many as possible attending who have worn the Black and Amber in their playing careers."
"Congratulations must be extended to David Waters on his selection for the Wales'B'team to play in France next Sunday and to Paul Turner on his selection as one of the substitutes. Everyone here at Rodney Parade is confident that David will enhance his reputation, just like he did last Saturday at Newbridge."
