"SUPPORTERS NEWS"
"Good Afternoon and on behalf of Newport Rugby Supporters Club welcome to Rodney Parade for today's SWALEC Cup match against our near neighbours and local rivals, Cardiff RFC. We also extend a warm welcome to the supporters, players and management of today's visitors."
"Last Friday evening, Newport maintained their quest to progress through to the semi finals of the British and Irish Cup with another impressive performance against Gael Force. The visitors fielded a strong side made up of Scottish national academy players and squad members from Glasgow and Edinburgh, including three internationals. However, despite their impressive pedigree, Gael Force could not match the desire of the home team who secured the win with a four-try bonus point a minute into the second half."
"The last two games at home have certainly seen Newport find their form again and turn in excellent, well-drilled performances. Hopefully they are peaking at the right time with everything still to play for this season - progression in both the BIC and SWALEC Cups and they can still challenge for the league."
"That form could be vital tonight as we face the current reigning Principality Premiership champions for a place in the quarter finals of the SWALEC Cup. Of course Newport have already played the Blue and Blacks at Rodney Parade this season in November and secured a 23-17 win. Cardiff are just below Newport in the league by a single point and although they have won their last two league fixtures against Llandovery and Pontypool, they suffered a surprise 26-0 loss against Glamorgan Wanderers on Boxing Day. In the BIC, they lost last Sunday afternoon against Doncaster by 34 points to 10."
"Last Friday evenings win against Gael Force saw Newport extend their winning run at home this season to 13 games without loss. Good luck to the boys this afternoon, another strong performance will extend the winning home run I see Newport progress to the quarter finals of the Welsh Cup."
"The next two games will also be vital if Newport are to secure that semi final place in the BIC. Although they are currently top of their group, there are difficult away matches to come against Leinster A and Cornish Pirates, with Leinster A currently undefeated in the competition."
