"CHAIRMANS NOTES"
"It’s really hard to keep a lid on the real excitement that is going on in our club at the moment and indeed in the village."
"We must of course give most of the credit to the players, coaches, management and support staff who I have to say are working extremely hard and professionally. From ending 13th of 14 last season Steve Law and myself had a long and serious chat about expectations, we concluded by saying if we want things to change "we have to make changes". Change we did, a new crop of players, a totally different ethos and intensity, brought back some old values and this is what has happened. We have a team that doesn't want to lose and believes it can win every game."
"It would also be remiss of me not to include the committee and members who have supported this success off the field. Tonight we have extended our hand out to the rest of the Community who we so desperately want to come here and become part of our club. Welsh rugby needs the people back supporting the game at all levels in order for the nation to be successful in the future. Bedwas RFC are passionate about the Community and about rugby in our village and we dearly hope that they take up our invite and turn up in droves tonight."
"I would also like to extend our warm welcome to everyone involved with Newport RFC our opponents tonight. This is always an eagerly awaited derby match, good hard rugby from obvious rivals. Bedwas nicked the unlikely win in the last minute at Rodney Parade earlier in the season which I know Newport were desperately disappointed with and I'm sure they will be keen to avenge tonight. Bedwas of course will be keen to record a double over them as we did last year, however it is bound to be tough Newport are playing some great rugby and have won their last 5 outings. Putting all the rivalry's to one side for moment, we are of course part of the same Dragons region which I think it would fair to say we have all struggled to work out how it all fits. I am extremely hopeful that we are starting to get on the right track with all the clubs and the Dragons region putting the work in to hopefully see the region become more successful. On the subject of seeing it working, I am delighted to announce that Ross Wardle has been offered a full time playing contract with the Dragons for the next 18 months. This is testament to Ross's hard work the Bedwas club's support and the recognition from the Dragons of Ross's talent. Well done Ross."
"Tonight’s match sponsors are City Environmental Services, Christian and Nick Young who I'm pleased to say are becoming regular faces here at Bedwas, FIS Bassett, Sonia Bassett a new addition to the clubs sponsors and Caerphilly Timber Supply's who need no introduction Andy and David Thomas we thank you all for your valued support and we hope you have a great night."
"Come on the Bed."
