From the match programme:-
"NOTES"
"Our grateful thanks are due tonight to Newport for so willingly agreeing to bring a team to Pandy Park to play this match in aid of the Cross Keys R.F.C. Grandstand Fund. We have been without a Stand here since the war. and although efforts have been made to rectify the matter, things have not been too easy. Money raised for the Stand immediately after the war had to be used to erect the 150-yard river wall, which proved very expensive, and since then the fund has grown only slowly. However, the aim is in sight now, for recent negotiations with the Welfare Committee over security of tenure as far as Cross Keys R.F.C. are concerned have been most heartening, and it is hoped that the proceeds of tonight's game will see even more progress made."
"It is unfortunate that the First Trial at Pontypool next Saturday has weakened tonight’s Newport XV, although the weakening is only comparative, for no side which contains two internationals, plus players of the calibre of ex-Navy wing Bernard Glasson. John Anderson, Billy Watkins. John Phillips. G. Lewis and G. Davidge can be called weak."
"Cross Keys hope to field the same XV as that which defeated Llanelly last Wednesday."
"Don’t forget next Wednesdays match against Pontypridd, who are still undefeated. This game should provide some real 'fireworks' in keeping with the date."
"The music tonight is provided by the Band of the 283 (Mon.) Field Regt. R.A. (T.A.), conducted by Bandmaster R. Tilley, by kind permission of the Commanding Officer. We thank them for their services."
