Great site and very interested in the 1962/63 team players. Would like to know more about h thomas. Most of the players seem to have a tag of info and history except this man. Where did he go ?

Honor

My grandfather, Fred Nicholas played for Newport on the wing in 1920/1930’s. The reason I wanted to find this site was my mother has found an official souvenir programme from the game between New South Wales v Newport on 22nd September 1927.

I’m not trying to outdo my very good friend Martin Vann (who put up a post from Charlotte NC last summer & who I’ve known since we were both 10 !!), but I remember the famous 1963 game versus the All Blacks even better, because I was actually there !! I attended the former St Julian’s GS and we were allowed to go to the match that afternoon, and were in the schoolboys enclosure if I remember correctly. I do remember that a section of fencing in front of us collapsed & we all spilled onto the pitch. I also remember that (if it wasn’t actually raining on the day) the pitch was heavily waterlogged, which no doubt contributed to the Black & Ambers famous victory. And of course I definitely remember the winning drop goal !!!Thanks for bringing back so many very happy memories - what a simply brilliant website !!

My Dad, Fredrick Charles Denton Williams is the youngest son of Mapson Thomas Williams who gained one cap against France in Feb 1923. It has been great to feel some identity with my family tree through your site which was found by my brothers, Shane, Troy & Todd. We were all born in the 1960’s which was a shame because I believe there would have been some great stories. As past rugby League players it made us all proud as punch especially Dad to come across this website. I still have a keen interest in both Rugby & League but with 2 daughters it turns to Netball & the beach which I don’t mind either. I would be interested to know if you have further information / Photos of my grandfather. I think Newport Football Club website is fantastic & it was great to read the letter written by my cousin Ken Williams. Ricki Williams

RT Evans is quite a celebrated figure in our rugby club. He came from my home down but I am not sure if he played for Rhymney? I know his brother did though. Can you find out please?

paul

R T EVANS was my father’s uncle. I was looking to see what information was on the web.

I was really excited to find my great grandfather, Edwin (Beddoe) Thomas listed on your site. He died 3 years before I was born but I have grown up knowing that he was a great rugby player. I only have one or two photographs of him so enjoyed picking him out from your photos. Thank you.

ROBERT DIBBLE

It was nice to see my great uncle (Robert Dibble) remembered on your website, and also to learn a bit more about him. Do you know the name of the pub he ran in Newport?I used to play rugby just outside his home town of Bridgwater for Morganians rfc.

Dorian Turner
