Educated Caerleon Comprehensive School. Nickname 'Muddy'. Joined from Magor making his Newport RFC debut at Rodney Parade against Watsonians 26th December 1974 (Won 16 v 6). Scored his first try at Rodney Parade against Bristol 7th December 1975 (Won 25 v 10). Many appearances at No 8., 300th game in 1983-84, 400th in 1985-86, 500th game was at Rodney Parade against Moseley 5th November 1988 (Won 37 v 15), 538th (beating Rhys Morgan's record) 7th October 1989 again at Rodney Parade against Cardiff (Lost 16 v 29),700th game at home against London Welsh 8th April 1996 (Won 22 v 20), and 702nd in last match 11th May 1996 at Llanelli (Lost 56 v 22).
Picked twice for Wales in 1985 (against France and England) but weather prevented him playing. Won 4 Wales caps in 1986 (against England, Scotland, Ireland, and France).
Played for Barbarians, Monnmouthshire, Crawshays (including winning Dubai 7's 1987).
Also played number of matches for Newport United. Was sent off twice in 9 days on tour with Newport in 1979 in South Africa. Won Man Of the Match award in 21 v 8 win over Llanelli at nearly 40yrs old. (Newport had lost 6 v 78 to Swansea 2 weeks earlier!).
Played First Division rugby with Merthyr after he left Newport. Granted a testimonial in 2000 whilst at Merthyr. Best memory (prior to winning Welsh Cap) was winning 1977 WRU Cup and playing for Newport RFC vs All Blacks 1989 (Lost 3 v 14). Had also played for Newport against the All Blacks in 1980 (Lost 9 v 54).
Presented with special award December 1991 by British Writers Association for services to rugby. Made a Life Member of Newport Athletic Club in 1995.
