Played for Caldicot Youth and Chepstow before joining Pontypool in 1986-87. Played his first few 1st class games for Newbridge (1985-86). Played for South-West - Chepstow part of area. Played over 200 games for Pontypool (debut vs Tredegar December 1986)- scored nearly 50 tries. Helped Pontypool to 1991 Welsh Cup Final and was captain for 3 seasons including 1992-93. Played for Pontypool and Monmouthshire against New Zealand 1987.

Joined Newport RFC in 1993-94. Played for Newport 1993-94 to 1998-99. Webber Award 1994-95. Went to Australia with Welsh Squad in 1991 under capt Paul Thorburn - did not play in ill-fated test (Lost 63 v 6). Captained Crawshays XV on tour to Italy. Played for Barbarians against Newport! Newport captain in 1994-95, 1995-96 and 1996-97. Being chosen as Newport captain was he feels his greatest rugby honour.
