Born Newport in 31 Dec 1933. Played 1952/3 at age of 18 before doing National Service after he had played for Wales and Newport Youth. Joined S W Borderers for National Service and played for British Army. Played 9 times for Wales - 1st cap in 1959 vs France. Pack leader under Bryn Meredith. Toured with 1962 British Lions (rep) in SA but was injured only playign 3 games. Picked for Test team but withdrew with back injury. Captained Newport in 1962/3 and played 270 times scoring 28 tries - 13 in 1961/2. Member of winning Newport team vs 1957 Australians and 1963 NZ and losing (0-3) 1961 SA. These last two are his greatest rugby memories. Formed all Welsh backrow with Brian Cresswell and Geoff Whitson. Crawshay?s (capt) but never played for the Barbarians although apparently selcted for squad. Member of Newprt 7 who won Snelling Trophy 3 consecutive times from 1961-3. Died Sat 18th March 2006 at 9AM from cancer at Royal Gwent Hospital. St Teilo?s Church Alway / Croesyceiliog Crematorium March 29th 2006. Pall bearers David Watkins, Stuart Watkins, Alun Thomas + 3 family.
