Born 26 March 1935 Pontypool. Played for British Army and recommended for trial at Newport by Major Brian Dauncey. Played from 1955 to 1962 scoring 951 pts. In his first season 1955/6 beat Ben Edwards? record with 159 pts. A proud moment but proudest was being picked to play for Wales v Scotland 1960 ? kicking 1 pg and converting Bebb?s try (W8-0). Bryn Meredith was captain and Newport?s back row of Cresswell, Davidge and Whitson played. He once kicked 4 penalties to beat Cardiff 12-8 and dropped a goal vs 1957 Wallabies (W11-0). Injury made him miss the 1960 match vs SA (L0-3) ? a match that would surely have been won had he played. The knee injury caused an early retirement after making 209 appearances for Newport. Played 10 times for Monmouthshire and also played for Barbarians and Crawshays. 3caps (14pts).
