Born Melbourne in June 1941 of Welsh father who was in Colonial Service and had joined Australian Air Force when 2nd World War broke out. Family eventually returned to Britain and Bill played for Wrexham, New Brighton and Wales U23 before joining Newport in 1963/4. Made debut at Bristol Sept 14th 1963 (L0-16). Formed a formidable 2nd row with Brian Price (Bill and Ben). Played for Wales twice in 1965-6. Proudest moment was Wales debut in 1965 at Murrayfield (W14-12 ? partnered Brian Price). Played from 1963/4 to 1968/9: 167 apps / 16 tries. In 1966/7 he made 45 apps and played in 3-3 draw with Australia ? he thought that he had scored a try in that match but the referee disallowed it ! Made 22 appearances in last season 1968/9 ? Newport only lost 4 out of 45 matches (drawing 3). Selected for Barbarians 1969 summer tour to South Africa. Later joined Cardiff.
