Born Westbury on Severn, 15 July 1874 and played 18 seasons for Cardiff ? captaining them for 4 seasons. He gained 24 Welsh caps - 3 as a Newport player. Cardiff and Wales capt (10 times), British Lion 1899, who joined Newport Jan 4th 1902 until end of season (He had a business in Newport with H B Winfield). He captained Wales to win Triple Crown 1901/2 : Jan 11th 1902 vs England (W9-8), Feb 1st 1902 vs Scotland (W14-5) and Mar 8th 1902 (W15-0). Probably the greatest centre of his day and he played as well as ever behind half back Llewellyn Lloyd whom he said was the best half he had ever played with. His great kicking and defending meant that Newport did not lose one match in which he played. He scored in 8 of the 11 matches he played. 1901/2: 11 apps scoring 8 tries and 2 dg. Later became international referee. Died at Dinas Powis, March 24th 1939.
