Played for Newbridge when only 15. Played for Pontypool and St Lukes (capt) before joining Newport in 1957-58 (played 1 game/debut vs Universities Athletic Union at Rodney Parade 28th December 1957 (Draw 3 v 3) after losing his place at Pontypool to Colin Evans ex-Newport. He then displaced Brian Scrivens (who had displaced Evans at Newport) and went on to win Welsh cap before losing his place to Scrivens. Played 1957-58 to 1961-62 for Newport RFC. He dropped goals in successive matches against Cardiff and Bristol. Capped against France in Paris in 1959 partnering Malcolm Thomas also of Newport (picked as partnership by WRU). Played for Barbarians vs South Africa in 1961 only defeat. Also in team were Brian Jones and Brian Price.
