Known as the 'Poacher'. Attended Loughborough College. Played for Newport RFC 1945-52. Captain 1948-49 - also chosen for 1949-50 but serious illness prevented him doing so. Dropped goal in 4 v 8 defeat vs 1947-48 Wallabies (capt Bill McLean). Played wing forward as an experiment vs Richmond at Rodney Parade in 1951-52 and scored a hat-trick in Newport's 18 v 3 win. Scored 3 tries (2 interceptions) for Monmouthshire vs Kiwis at Pontypool Park, 1945.
During World War II Acting Major, First Parachute Regiment and in first airborne division to go into France. Served in Italy and Holland. He fought at Arnhem and was awarded the Crois-de-guerre medal for bravery by the French government.
School teacher at Brynglas Secondary and Bassaleg Grammar Schools. Looked after Newport Schools U15. All-rounder with Newport Fugitives CC. Committee member, matchday announcer. Honorary Life Member.
