Dai is a former Cardiff Youth player and has played for Wales Students and Newport Under 21. Dai made his debut as a replacement vs Newcastle Falcons in January 2002. Made 10 appearances for Newport 2002-03 to 2003-04 and was given a development contract in 2003-04 for Newport Gwent Dragons but also played for Newport during the season.

Dai captained Newport in their 15 v 7 win over Aberavon in the Welsh Cup February 2006 to take their 12 month ground record.

Elected Captain of Newport RFC for 2006-07 and made his 175th appearance for Newport RFC at home against Cross Keys on 11th April 2009 (Lost 17 v 32). Completed his 200th appearance at Rodney Parade against Gael Force in the British & Irish Cup 12th February 2010 (Won 27 v 5).
