Sam made his first appearance for Newport RFC in 2000-01. Has played for Welsh Crawshays. Loaned and then joined Pontypool including when they won Division 1 championship. Returned to Newport RFC in 2003-04 to make 27 appearances scoring 6 tries. Played also in 2008-09.

Made his 100th appearance for Newport RFC in the away win over Aberavon (20 v 27) at the Talbot Athletic Ground on Saturday, 31st October 2009. 100 Cap presented by Newport RFC Director Will Godfrey after the Newport v Cardiff game at Rodney Parade Saturday, 7th November 2009.
