1922-23 under Jack Wetter saw Newport achieve their 6th undefeated season. Newport at times seemed to concentrate on preventing the opposition from scoring as much as scoring themselves. Prominent in the forward were Tom Roberts, Neil McPherson, Jack Whitfield, Dr. William Roche as did Mapson Williams and William Radford who won their Welsh caps. Tom Jones played well in the second half of the season and he was outstanding as an extra three-quarter at Leicester in the last match of the season as Newport held on to their unbeaten record.
Other players who did well were J. V. Waite, George Hathway, Eddie Dowdall and the superb Jack Wetter. Fred Baker was as reliable as ever at fullback. Fred Baker and Albert Stock played in all 39 unbeaten matches while Jack Wetter played in 37. Albert Stock (20) and George Andrews (19) were leading try scorers.
