Ll. Lloyd reluctantly - he had other commitments - accepted the captaincy for the 4th consecutive season in 1902-03 and once again Newport had an outstanding season with just 2 defeats - a double to Swansea.

Once more Newport were Welsh and United Kingdom Champions. In the last 3 seasons Newport's record was: P89 W73 D9 L7 - second only to the period 1891-96 when just 9 matches were lost. 34 players were used and E. Wyatt Gould played in 32 while Charlie Lewis and Beddoe Thomas played in 30. Tom Pearson was top scorer with 18 tries and 1dg, Cliff Pritchard 15 tries and Wyatt Gould 13 tries and 1dg.
