Charlie Pritchard was elected captain in 1906-07 which showed 7 defeats and also a remarkable 7 drawn matches. Lack of scoring power did not help but Newport were only beaten by Welsh teams and the touring Springboks (0 v 8). This match attracted a then record crowd of 19,000. Newport were unable to defeat Cardiff, Swansea or Llanelly. Charlie Pritchard, although very popular, may not have been the best captain but he was a great player. Sadly Charlie was to become one of four Newport Internationals to lose his life in World War I, the others being Lou Phillips, Billy Geen and Phil Waller.
37 players were used with captain Charlie Pritchard and George Boots missing just two at 25. D J Boots played in 24 matches. Willie Thomas top scored with 8t followed by S Adams and Alby Davies each with 7t.
