Once again the tournament was held at St Helens in 1957 and for the third year running Malcolm Thomas was the Newport captain. Newport’s team showed just the one change from the previous year with Glyn Davidge replacing Leighton Jenkins at forward : Ken Jones, Malcolm Thomas (capt), Roy Burnett and scrum-half Colin Evans. The forwards were Glyn Davidge, John Phillips and Geoff Whitson. Comfortable wins against Pontypridd and Newbridge saw them into the second semi-final against Neath and they just got home 12-10 to reach their 4th consecutive final. Abertillery took the lead with a try by P Richardson and a conversion by B Lewis. They then added a further try by Hadyn Morgan to lead 8-0.
