1959 saw the tournament return to Rodney Parade. Bryn Meredith was Newport’s captain and hooker with Glyn Davidge and Geoff Whitson forming an all-international forward line. The backs were Norman Morgan, Clive Lewis, Brian Jones and Brian Scrivens.
They easily saw off Cross Keys and Glamorgan Wanderers in the first rounds but had a tough fight against Ebbw Vale in the semi-final. Pontypool, who included former Newport player Colin Evans, beat Aberavon, Newbridge and Penarth after a close call in the semi-final to set up the 4th (out of 6) all Monmouthshire final. In a nail biting final Newport got home by 6-3 to win the title for an impressive 4th time.
