In 1962 the tournament was held at St Helens, Swansea and Newport fielded backs B Thomas, B Jones, D Watkins, W Prosser and forwards B Price, B Meredith and G Davidge and they cruised to the final scoring 7 tries to just 1.
The final in front of 20,000 people against Neath was completely one-sided with Newport running in 4 tries to just 1. Byron Thomas opened Newport’s scoring and then Brian Price scored a try with Brian Jones converting. Richards scored for Neath before Brian Jones converted David Watkins’ try to make the score 16-3. To finish off the game Brian Jones then dropped a goal for a final score of 19-3.
