1990

In 1990 Newport reached the S/F again and looked to be favourites after beating holders Swansea by 28-10 in the second round Gary Abraham scored an interception try to help Newport to a 12-0 lead and 36 yr old David Waters collected the ball unfailingly from the kick-off’s for Glenn George’s team.

In the S/F they came up against Newbridge who snapped up tries by David Rees, Alun Harries and Jon Westwood to win 16-10. All three of these players were to play for Newport and David Rees would become coach in 2004/5. Newbridge went on to beat Bridgend in the final 20-14 and captain David Rees won the Everson Award.

Newport team : Andrew Lewis, Gary Abraham, Paul Turner, Chris Lake, Glen George, Alun Carter and David Waters.
