1909-10 under new captain Tommy Vile saw only 2 defeats - Cardiff (H) and Neath (A) - both by a single point. Players showed much grit and determination in saving or winning matches. Many times eg at Blackheath, Swansea and Cardiff, they were behind until late into the game but came back to win. Against Blackheath they were 15 v 3 down at half time but came back to win 17 v 15 close to time. Vile, Martin, Jack Jones and Birt often combined brilliantly.
Walter Martin and Reg Plummer played in 38 of the 39 matches while Melville Baker player 37 and he was also top scorer with 26 tries. Stanley Williams played in 36 matches and Fred Birt in 35.
