The 1889-90 Season
Next:
1890-91

1889-90 saw Theo Harding replaced by Tom Graham as captain. This was the start of Graham's captaincy and he was to show himself to be one of Newport's greatest ever captains.

All the original team of the 1870's had gone and only Arthur Gould of the next generation remained. Records are incomplete but Harry Day played in at least 32 games, and Tom Graham in 33. Other appearances included T. Edwards and T. England with 32.

Once again the leading scorers were Charlie Thomas with at least 18t, 3dg and George Thomaswith 19t.

This was the season that the South Wales Challenge Cup was revived but only for junior clubs and second teams such as Newport United were allowed to enter the competition.

[In 1890 a gilded silver fob medallion was struck. The Asssay Office have confirmed it was manufactured by James Fenton of Great Hampton Street, Birmingham. It may have been attached to a gentleman's "Albert" (watch chain).]
