1911-12 saw Tommy Vile continue for his third consecutive season as captain in what was to be one of Newport's great seasons. Newport lost 2 of their first 10 matches but were not defeated again during the season. Tommy Vile showed himself to be one of the great Newport captains and he and Walter Martin were outstanding halfbacks.

Bob Dibble the Somerset and England forward played 20 games and he, Harry Uzzell, A. Percy Coldrick, Len Trump, Reg Edwards, Harry Wetter, Percy Jones, Ike Williams, F. Willis and Archie Bell were the regular forwards with Trump often outstanding. George Hirst was a big and strong wing and the other wing Reg Plummer was good in defence and attack. Wilfred Onions was a very effective centre and ex-Scottish halfback Roy McGregor took his place when he broke his collar bone.

35 players were used during the season with Wreford and Martin playing in 38 and Reg Plummer in 37 matches. Fred Birt led the scorers with 72 pts (14t, 6p, 3dg) while George Hirst scored 22 tries and 1 dg and Reg Plummer 18 tries. Wings Hirst and Plummer scored an impressive 40 tries between them.

On 25th March 1912 Wales played France at Rodney Parade before a 10,000 crowd, Wales winning 14pts. to 8.
