Season 1950-51 will be remembered for the winning of the Welsh Championship and the setting of several records - only 2 defeats and a record 26 consecutive wins in a season which added to the previous season's run gave the record of P40 W38 D2 L0 (11th March 1950 to 17th March 1951).
For many it will also be remembered for the exciting attacking rugby played by the team that season. The marvellous Roy Burnett, ably supported by inside half Billy Williams, centres Bryn Williams and Bobby Owen, Ken Jones was a joy to watch. Newport won the first 3 matches against Cardiff including a win at Cardiff Arms Park in front of a world record club crowd of 48,500. Over 20,000 packed into Rodney Parade to watch the 4th match which Newport would surely have won had not Roy Burnett dislocated his shoulder during the game.
Winger John Lane was leading try scorer on 27 tries while George Hirst and Doug Ackerman played 39 of the 40 games.
It should also be noted that the United - invincible in 1949-50 lost only 1 game, and the Extras were invincible, to give an overall record for the 3 teams of : P91 W81 D7 L3.
